Undead by Kirsty McKay

Out of sight, out of their minds: It's a school-trip splatter fest and completely not cool when the other kids in her class go all braindead on new girl Bobby.

The day of the ski trip, when the bus comes to a stop at a roadside restaurant, everyone gets off and heads in for lunch. Everyone, that is, except Bobby, the new girl, who stays behind with rebel-without-a-clue Smitty.

Then hours pass. Snow piles up. Sun goes down. Bobby and Smitty start to flirt. Start to stress. Till finally they see the other kids stumbling back.

But they've changed. And not in a good way. Straight up, they're zombies. So the wheels on the bus better go round and round freakin' fast, because that's the only thing keeping Bobby and Smitty from becoming their classmates' next meal. It's kill or be killed in these hunger games, heads are gonna roll, and homework is most definitely gonna be late.

I don’t know if you guys know that I am terrified of zombies. But sometimes I can’t help but gravitate towards zombie books and movies. It’s like I want to test how scare I can get. Honestly why do I do this to myself? Can anyone tell me?

I heard that people thought of Undead as a B movie. Low budget and bad writing but fun to watch. Because of that I thought the writing was going to be bad but it was actually pretty good and entertaining. The pacing of the book was a little too fast for me though. It’s not like it was all over the place but I just wanted the characters to have a little more down time. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like it was a deal breaker for me. It was just a little different that’s all.

While the characters were well written and I definitely saw character growth, I was expecting them to bond earlier in the book. I feel like the only one that was trying to keep them together was Bobby. But I guess not everyone feels the need to bond with maybe the last remaining humans in the world like I do. If a zombie apocalypse happens I don’t think I’ll get to bond with anybody because I’ll be one of the first to go.

Undead was a good and entertaining read with funny characters and lots of zombie encounters. The ending was a little bit of a cliffhanger but not like the ones that makes you want to commit murder.

  1. Gah I hated this book hahah. It was just a lil too stupid for me. Like I know that's the point it' supposed to be ridiculous and funny but I was totally annoyed by it. Seems like one people love or hate, though :)

  2. Um, yeah, to be honest, from the blurb it does sound a bit stupid/cliched haha. Although you seemed to have enjoyed it, so I might give it a try in the future :)
