If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch Review and Giveaway

If You Find Me

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15793231-if-you-find-me

There are some things you can’t leave behind…

A broken-down camper hidden deep in a national forest is the only home fifteen year-old Carey can remember. The trees keep guard over her threadbare existence, with the one bright spot being Carey’s younger sister, Jenessa, who depends on Carey for her very survival. All they have is each other, as their mentally ill mother comes and goes with greater frequency. Until that one fateful day their mother disappears for good, and two strangers arrive. Suddenly, the girls are taken from the woods and thrust into a bright and perplexing new world of high school, clothes and boys.

Now, Carey must face the truth of why her mother abducted her ten years ago, while haunted by a past that won’t let her go… a dark past that hides many a secret, including the reason Jenessa hasn’t spoken a word in over a year. Carey knows she must keep her sister close, and her secrets even closer, or risk watching her new life come crashing down.

I don't know how to put my thoughts into words when it comes to this book. I really don't. If You Find Me broke my heart in tiny little pieces. As I reader, I always experienced this feeling of wishing I could dive in the book and save the day. I've never wanted to be able to do this more than with this book. Not to save the day but only to hug Carey and Jenessa. I wanted to adopt these girls and give them all the love they never got from their own mother. Even now thinking about  it brings tears to my eyes. This part of the book was so hard to read. The abuse and neglect these girls experienced made me feel like I couldn't breathe and powerless because I couldn't help them.

Even though my heart broke in parts of this book I just couldn't help but loving it. In all that darkness and sadness there was hope and healing. I didn't trust anybody just like Carey but in the end almost all of the people she crossed after she got rescued from the camper were so amazing to her and her sister. Her dad and stepmom were highlights in the book. These people wanted nothing else but to make the girls happy and comfortable. They showed the sisters  love and what being a real parent is all about. Their relationship was just beautiful.

This book is beautifully written and is definitely a fast read. I know it sounds like a depressing book, but it really isn't. It was so amazing and powerful. I hope you guys give it a try. I really do.

I'll be giving away a paperback copy of If You Find Me. This giveaway is INT'l and will end on 4/3/14.

  2. I will definitely have to be in the right kind of mood to tackle this one, but I do intend to tackle it. This is the kind of painful YA contemporary read I can handle (no one dying of cancer, etc.), and it sounds incredibly powerful. I can't wait to learn about Carey and Jenessa for myself. Great review!

  8. You know, if it weren't for your review I probably would've never picked this book up. The cover doesn't appeal to me (I judge based on the cover... gah). Now that I've read the summary, it does sound like something that I'd enjoy. Your review makes that point, too. Thanks for the giveaway! :)

  16. Thanks for the chance to win an amazing book. This story line is close to my heart. I have an adopted son and know their are so many children out there who need to be rescued. Those of us who are fortunate enough to be in a loving family should be very grateful and pray for those who aren't.
