Josh and Hannah by Lynda Chance Review

I use Grammarly for english proofreading because there's a little grammar nazy in all of us.

Josh and Hannah (Redwood Falls, #1)

Josh Turner wants Hannah more than life itself. She's perfect and new . . . but she's a McIntyre. She's from the richest family in the county, and he's a Turner, from the wrong side of the proverbial tracks. And to make matters worse, there's no love lost between their families.

I don't know how to explain how I feel about Josh and Hannah. This book has the addicting-I can't put you down- factor. I give it that. The writing was also good. That's one of the reasons why I finished it. There wasn't much going on in the plot department, but sometimes a simple plot makes for a great fast read. Sadly there were too many things that made Josh and Hannah a not so great book.

The pacing of the book was good, but there was this intensity between Josh and Hannah throughout the entire book that made it kind of one tone. It just didn't change. I think Josh's character was one factor that gave that feel to the book. He was too overwhelming all the time. The things that came out of his mouth sometimes left my mouth hanging open and screaming to Hannah to run for her life. Here are a few examples:

“You belong to me now, understand? You're mine; we're exclusive. Nobody else gets to touch you, and I mean not at all."And "I own you"

No. Just no.

This made his character look like a sociopath instead of a possessive alpha male. The thing is that even when he said all this crazy things Hannah went with it. Hannah's survival instincts were none existent, rather than warning bells she felt butterflies in her stomach. It was almost like seeing a shark coming towards you with a million teeth showing and instead of swimming for your life you decide to try and cuddle the beast. I just didn't understand. Josh wasn't confident at all and was always whining about Hannah being rich and him being poor. At one point,  he's having an inner dialogue with himself about what he should tell Hannah to do with her inheritance like, donate it because if he's poor she should be too. UGH!!

Josh overshadowed the plot. He even overshadowed the other "main" character which was Hannah. At the beginning of the book, Hannah's voice was audible and clear. She may not have been too smart with the decisions she made, but she was there until she wasn't anymore, and it was only Josh narrating almost everything. I heard glimpses of her voice, but it was only to hear things like "...it would always be about Josh". At the beginning,  his possessiveness and need to be around Hannah was cute and made me sigh but then it got creepy to the point where I was kind of scared of him.

Josh and Hannah bother me to the point where I almost abandoned the book. But I finished it for the simple fact that Lynda Chance knows how to keep the reader entertained. There were some side characters that I wanted to see developed a little bit more. Hopefully will see some of these characters in the next book, and I'm hoping that the next heroine doesn't take a back seat as Hannah did.

  2. Ish yeah I doubt I would like Josh very much just from that quote alone. I don't mind plots that are subtle but the characters have to make up for it not having much of a plot and it sounds like it wasn't really the case with this one, at all! O_O
