'Slammed' is the first of a two book series.
After the unexpected death of her father forces eighteen year old Layken and her family to move across the country, away from everyone and everything she knows, her outlook on life is anything but hopeful.
Enter Will Cooper: the attractive twenty-one year old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry. After a night together that turns out to be everything but the expected, both Layken and Will are left with feelings they never knew they could have. Unfortunately in Layken's life, things are never what they seem. Just as quickly as it develops, their relationship is derailed by a shocking revelation, sparking a tumultuous battle between their hearts and their ethics.
As if the dramatic turn of events in her life isn't enough, Layken is slammed again when her mother reveals a secret of her own. A secret so intense, all of Layken's current problems pale in comparison to her seemingly insurmountable future. Unable to confront the changes that lie ahead of her, Layken ignores her conscience as she turns to Will for solace. Struggles ensue as both Layken and Will search for a balance between that which keeps them apart and the feelings that pull them together.
I started reading Slammed yesterday morning and finished it last night at 2:00am. This is what I know for sure: I’m in LOVE with this book. The writing was amazing and I instantly connected with the characters. After finishing it I couldn’t sleep and this happens when I need to write a review ASAP. But instead of writing a review I wrote a “poem”. I have never written a poem before and I promised myself to publish it with this review. Keep in mind that I wrote this in less than 10 minutes and it was 2am. Thanks in advance for not laughing at me ;)
And before anyone yells at me, here’s my $3 dollars
(if you read the book you know what I’m talking about)
Book Love
Slammed.
A book that won’t help you
Sleep or think!
All you want to do
Is Weep.
Weep of happiness
Sadness
And the ness’ in between.
Between my sheets
With no sleep
I’m thinking tomorrow will be
A long day
With out a read.
No,
No.
Not one read
Cuz my mind can’t process
All the beauty in this book
In 24 hours.
All the love
And the words that inspire
Me to plead
Plead readers out there
To give this book
A peek.
You won’t regret it!
You won’t be able
To stop smiling
For a week.
*Runs off stage and hides under a table*
two thumbs up!

ReplyDeleteYAY!! Thanks! You are welcome!!! :)
DeleteThis is fucking AMAZING! You really must have loved this book! While I have review books I need to read immediately & sooo much studying to do, you convinced me to read this ASAP! especially since I was so excited to read it for a while now, anyways. This probably the best review I have seen in the 8 months of book blogging careers<3

-thank you&come again.
Oh my goodness! You are Awesome!!!! Thanks girl! You made my day!
DeleteLOVE the poem! Definitely no laughter here. But, I just have to say you should totally read another book today - Point of Retreat is just as amazing as Slammed. Trust me. Actually, trust Hoover. She is incredible!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!! I'm definitely going to start reading Point of Retreat today!
DeleteI'd give it a day before reading POINT OF RETREAT as it's told from Will's POV. I still had Lake in my head when I read POR the first time.
DeleteThat is a wonderful review! One of the awesome things about this book is that its story becomes a part of your own, and your poem captures that so beautifully. I'm like snapping my fingers or whatever cool applause-y things people do at slams! Hope you can hear it!
ReplyDeleteI can definitely hear it! Thank you so much! :)
DeleteI read SLAMMED about a month ago and your poem abso-butterflying-lutely summed up how I also felt after experiencing this amazing novel. I couldn't have said it better and, frankly, I wish I'd said it; I'm bummed I didn't say it; and I would've said it if I had a creative bone in my body. POINT OF RETREAT is fantastic, too, and the poem you wrote will be just as applicable after you feel "the ness'" in it as well. Colleen Hoover is a freakin' genius who spoke to my soul through these two books and I am so happy that she's getting the kudos she deserves.
ReplyDeleteThank you!! :)
DeleteAwe, Channa that's so sweet!
DeleteButterflying amazing poem!!!! Loved it!!!
