Sanctum by Sarah Fine, Collections Book Tour

Sanctum (Guards of the Shadowlands, #1)"My plan: Get into the city. Get Nadia. Find a way out. Simple."

A week ago, seventeen-year-old Lela Santos's best friend, Nadia, killed herself. Today, thanks to a farewell ritual gone awry, Lela is standing in paradise, looking upon a vast gated city in the distance – hell. No one willingly walks through the Suicide Gates, into a place smothered in darkness and infested with depraved creatures. But Lela isn't just anyone – she's determined to save her best friend's soul, even if it means sacrificing her eternal afterlife.

As Lela struggles to find Nadia, she's captured by the Guards, enormous, not-quite-human creatures that patrol the dark city's endless streets. Their all-too-human leader, Malachi, is unlike them in every way except one: his deadly efficiency. When he meets Lela, Malachi forms his own plan: get her out of the city, even if it means she must leave Nadia behind. Malachi knows something Lela doesn't – the dark city isn't the worst place Lela could end up, and he will stop at nothing to keep her from that fate.

I know if I'm going to like a book just by reading its first few pages. With Sanctum Sarah Fine had me by the first few sentences. This book was that amazing. The plot was incredible too. It took twists and turns I wasn't expecting. I could not guess what was going to happen next. I (no lie) chewed off some of my nails trying to stay calm.

Another thing I loved about Sanctum were the characters. Lela was an incredibly real heroine. From the first page we know she is not your typical YA character. She's strong and like I said very real. I fell in love with her instantly. I also loved how loyal Lela was to Nadia. And Malachi oh, Malachi how much I love you. Malachi was probably my top 5 reasons why I loved Sanctum so much. ;)

Sarah Fine is a genius. I say this because the book takes place in a very dark place where not many authors can entertain the reader until the last page. Fortunately Sarah did a fantastic job of describing what was happening. Instead of bland she gave us rich and realistic pictures. I could see everything that was happening in the book like a movie. I could taste and smell what Lela was experiencing and seeing. The only thing I have to say is that Sanctum was PERFECT!
